About Us

The Society aims to broaden members’ interest, knowledge and enjoyment of the decorative and fine arts through the programme of lectures, visits and tours. We are a member of The Arts Society (formerly the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society NADFAS) which is an arts-based educational charity with over 92,000 members in 338 societies across the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

There are monthly lectures from September to June on a variety of interesting topics within the decorative and fine arts spectrum. Speakers are generally selected from The Arts Society Directory of Lecturers and are not only specialists within their field but also interesting and entertaining. These illustrated talks last approximately an hour with an opportunity for questions at the end.

We arrange several London visits a year, sometimes linked to a particular lecture or a current exhibition. We also arrange visits outside London, to country houses, galleries or museums, usually in May and June.

Once a year we organise an overseas tour, usually to towns or cities of special interest within Europe. The Society sponsors arts projects amongst the young, linking up with local primary and secondary schools for a specific project.

We have an active group of Heritage Volunteers, working in varied locations in London’s museums, libraries, and art galleries, helping to record and preserve our cultural heritage.
