The President's Day Outing to Stanway House, Cheltenham and Russell House, Broadway
Tuesday 18 June 2019

Our President, Richard Ormond, has chosen Stanway House Cheltenham and Russell House Broadway for our outing this year.

Stanway House is a fine example of a Jacobean manor house which has been owned by the same family for the last 500 years. Its water-garden, one of the finest in England, was probably designed by Charles Bridgeman, the creator of the English style of gardening. Russell House was the home of the English painter F.D. Millett R.A. and where John Singer Sargent stayed in 1885-86 to paint his famous painting Carnation, Lily, Lily Rose.

The coach will depart from the Kenwood East Lodge entrance, Hampstead Lane, opposite Compton Avenue, at 8.15 a.m.   There will be a second stop at St. Michael’s Church South Grove Highgate at 8.25am. We hope the coach will be air conditioned with a loo.

We aim to arrive c 11 am at Stanway House and will have tea and biscuits before the tour.  Lunch is not included but there will be time for you to eat in one of the many restaurants and cafés in Broadway before we go to Russell House. Some suggestions will be given on the coach.

Dependent on weather and traffic, we plan to be back at Kenwood at approximately 7p.m. However this is very approximate and you are advised not to make any social bookings for that evening.

Numbers are limited. Bookings to Rosemary Preiskel, 93 Corringham Road NW11 7DL.  Cheques for £48 payable to The Arts Society Highgate. A booking will be confirmed by email once payment is received. Please provide an e-mail address and telephone number.   Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a refund if a booking is cancelled.
