Dear Members

The Society is currently supporting engagement in a community art project in Somers Town. The project, which was initiated by the new Somers Town Museum, brings children and families together with artists to create temporary murals reflecting the historical and contemporary life of this overlooked area of London.

A report from Professor Linda Lang with an update on the project follows:

"Sue Dennis, Chris Money and I went to Somers Town on Monday.
{We were photographed}  standing in front  of the community art work we helped to support in 2022.
Amongs other things we went to the Somers Town museum and met with Diana Foster,  who is leading many of  the art and cultural projects of Somers Town.
This is the Centennials year of the Somers Town Social Housing project and there will be a number of activities to mark the year.
She mentioned plans to create new art work around St Mary’s Church, which was central to the Somers Town development in the 1920s."

Further News:

 We are currently working with certain local schools in the wider Highgate area. Our aim is to identify talented 6th form art students and sponsor the submission of selected pieces of their work to TAS’s Annual 6th Form Star Student Competition. Our choice of "Misery in the Liminal 2" by Emma Cohen-Edmonds from the Wren Academy was chosen as one of the exhibits at the Mall Galleries in March 2023. For the 2024 exhibition which was run by TAS online we submitted "Self Portrait - Grey" by Francesca Armar and this was one of the shortlisted pictures although it did not gain first or second place. 

 These activities are part of our commitment to enthusing and nurturing local communities’ and young people’s interest in, and enjoyment of art.
